Seven crewmembers drowned and 26 others went missing when a cargo vessel sank off the waters of Carles town in Iloilo province on Saturday.
Reports said the coal-laden M/V Lake Paoay was sailing in the waters of Carles town when strong waves battered it at the height of typhoon Frank's (international codename Fengshen) onslaught over the weekend.
The cargo vessel came from Semirara town in Antique province and was bound for Toledo, Cebu when tragedy struck.
Four crewmembers were swept to the shores of Burias Island in Masbate province. The four were rescued by the villagers.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has launched a search mission for the 26 missing crewmen.
The vessel sank as other rescue teams of the PCG and the military searched for missing passengers and crewmembers of the Sulpicio Lines' M/V Princess of the Stars.
